"art changes lives, it changes minds, it changes opinions, it changes cultures, it changes people, it changes ideas, it changes voices, it changes perspective, it changes humanity." -don cheadle many are aware of the effort of somebodae school of the arts to consciously, consistently and constantly cultivate, educate, explore, expose and invest in our inner-cities via the arts, but many are not aware there's been far too many attempts to hinder and block that effort and initiatives, although the attempts to hinder and block are strategic, at the end of the day the attempts is still "hate." please note, you cannot keep, talk nor take us out of our journey for no weapon formed against this effort shall prosper. curriculum: the "full program" (ages 14 and up of our inner-cities across the u.s. audition for scholarship required) embodies a traditional visual and performing arts curriculum with multicultural and experimental arts courses, the "short program" (open to the general public ages 13 and up with no audition or scholarship required) is a lighter version of the full program, it utilizes a mix & match technique of the full program's core and non core curriculum in an attempt to tailor the program for that specific community. the core curriculum of the full program consist of theatre, music, dance and art/ visual arts courses with additional non core curriculum classes, workshops, master classes and a interdisciplinary performing conservatory/ company where students will have the opportunity to perform works within the community, county, statewide and u.s. the program focuses on developing the artistry of the student, performance quality, the fundamental elements of performing arts and visual arts, strong technical capability and skill, will focus on providing the students with the tools to shape a career that fits their individual talents and ambitions while addressing personal needs as well as the artistic needs and strengths in the various arts disciplines. mission: to consciously, consistently and constantly cultivate, educate, explore, expose and invest. to offer an effective, healthy, constructive and productive association and socialization outlet. to raise the representation of our young adults and adults in programs for the gifted and talented, post-secondary education and in the arena of "gifted artist." to develop technically skilled, artistically sophisticated, intelligent artists. to expose the students to the beauty and essence of the arts, the traditions from a artistic and global cultural perspective and from historical precedent while engaging in experimental examinations of all art forms and cultures, to name a few. in addition to preparing students for advanced study at the college level and professional careers in the arts, students in the program learn the value and power of self-worth, personal discipline, innovative thinking, collaborative exploration, dedication, creativity, confidence, problem solving skills, perseverance, focus, communication, accountability and how artists are true instruments for powerful artistic expression. ssa is more than just an arts school. foundation: one of the important elements of this effort is to change a nation's foul process. so many of our inner-city young adults and adults are denied opportunity simply because of who they are, what they are and or where they're from, a wise man once said "you don't have to know me in order to give me opportunity, know my story," another wise man once said "i don't have to know who the author of a book is in order to read the book that's not even about the author."
